How
Can I make a Patch?
top
- Your
quilt patch should be an eight inch square, allowing for a ˝ inch seam on
all sides (the design should be within seven inches). If you would like a pattern, please call
the National Donor Family Council at the National Kidney Foundation.
- You
may use any color or fabric – including such sentimental materials as your
loved one’s baby blanket, high school jacket, tie, favorite sweater. . .Do
not “finish” with quilting or backing.
- You
may use crayons, paint, markers, glitter, thread or any other medium to
design your square. You may adorn
the patch with a photograph, poems, quotes and symbols of your loved one’s
life.
- Please
feel free to include the name of your loved one and dates of birth and death,
if you wish.
- If you
don’t know how to sew, ask a friend or relative to help. Or you may call the council and they will
find someone who will help you sew your design.
Can
I make more than one Patch?
- No. Due to the overwhelming response to this
project, we are asking families to send in one patch for each Gift of Life
donor.
- You
may want to ask other family members for their input when designing the
patch.
How
and Where do I send my Patch?
- You
may want to take a picture of your patch before you send it to the Council
so you will always remember your design.
- You
should send your patch using an insured carrier or registered mail. Enclose the patch in a ziplock plastic
bag to ensure that it arrives safe and clean.
- Please
include your name, address an phone number on a separate piece of paper
and mail along with the patch.
- You should receive a letter confirming receipt
of the square in 6-8 weeks. Please
call the council if you do not receive confirmation.
When
can I see the Quilt? top
- Donor Families can schedule the Quilt for an event
in their area by calling the Council at (800) 622-9010.
- The entire Quilt is not always displayed at every
event. Please call to confirm your
square will be there.
- The schedule for the Quilt tour is also published
in the newsletter For Those Who Give and Grieve, or you may call
the Council to see when the Quilt will be visiting your area.
