Donor Quilt FAQ
The following are the most frequently asked questions about the Donor Memorial Quilt. If your question is not answered here, please email info@mwtn.org or call 913.262.1668.

How long will it take to sew my square onto the Quilt?
Because each quilt contains 44 squares, we must have a full set of 44 squares before that quilt is complete. It takes about one year for a quilt to be completed. During that time, each square (and story, if applicable) can be viewed individually on the website.

Why can’t I find my loved one’s quilt square on the web site?
The Quilt is a very special project for us, and we try to publish your loved one’s square as soon as possible. However, because this process is complex, it may take several weeks for your square to appear on the website.

My quilt square shows “No Story Available.” Can I still submit my story?Yes. If you submitted a quilt square with no story and would now like to share a story, send it to info@mwtn.org or Donor Family Quilt, Midwest Transplant Network, 1900 West 47th Place, Suite 400, Westwood, KS, 66205. Please limit your story to 100 words and remember to include your loved one’s name and date of death along with your name, address and phone number.

There is an error on my loved one’s quilt page.
Since information is often copied onto the website from families’ handwritten notes, typographical errors may occur. Should you notice an error on your loved one’s quilt page, please email info@mwtn.org or call 913.262.1668 so that we can make the appropriate correction.

Is the Quilt ever displayed in its entirety?
Yes. Because the quilt is now quite large and because it is often requested on conflicting days, it travels to different venues in sections. However, all quilts are displayed together at MTN’s Annual Gift of Life Donor Memorial Services.

How can I get the quilt to come to my area?
If you would like to see the quilt in your area, ask local organizations, hospitals, schools, etc. to contact MTN at 913.262.1668. We would be happy to make display arrangements with them. Remember, the quilt travels in sections. If you are planning for it to come to your area, please be sure your local organization requests the quilt containing your loved one’s square or contact MTN well in advance of your community’s event to arrange it.

Can I make more that one quilt square?
We are asking families to make only one square for each donor. You may want to ask other family members for their input when designing your square.

Can I make a quilt square for both Midwest Transplant Network’s Donor Memorial Quilt AND for National Kidney Foundation’s Patches of Love Quilt?
Yes. MTN’s quilt is displayed within the Kansas-Western Missouri area only. The national quilt, Patches of Love, travels throughout the United States. You can honor your loved one by making a square for both quilts. For information on Patches of Love go to www.donorfamily.org.
